Obesity: When the body weight is above normal BMI range then an individual comes under being overweight and obese .BMI(Body Mass Index ) in the range of 18.5-24.5 is considered normal and above the range indicates being overweight.If the BMI is above 30 then the person is considered as obese. Unplanned and unbalanced meals results in the intake of extra calories which get accumulated in the boby as fat. Obesity gives rise to many lifestyle disorders like hypertension,Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, Disturbed lipid profile. So it is very important to maintain a healthy body weight and a normal BMI. We help you in achieving a normal body weight and shed extra kilos with customized diet plans n counseling sessions.The diet is planned as per your working schedule and your likes and dislikes too are kept in mind .

Diabetes Mellitus: Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder that prevents the body to utilize glucose completely or partially . It is characterized by raised glucose concentration in the blood and alteration in carbohydrate, protein and fat metabolism. This can be due to failure in the formation of insulin/liberation or action. In type 1 diabetes also known as juvenile onset diabetes patients depend on insulin. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is also known as adult onset diabetes (non insulin dependent ). This form occurs mainly in adults and the person is usually overweight. Type 2 diabetes is associated with people who are obese or underactive . Obesity probably acts as a diabetogenic factor through increasing resistance to the action of insulin. People with a high waist /hip ratio have a greater risk of developing diabetes.

 

People with diabetes do not need to follow a “special diet” . Eating well is important for good diabetes control . Medical Nutrition Therapy is important in managing existing diabetes .Carbohydrate intake needs to be monitored , it is important to control the total amount of carbohydrate ,the source or type is less important. The timing of meal is important in people taking insulin. It is very important to control diabetes with drugs /insulin and Diet . Poorly controlled diabetes can have severe complications like: blindness,hypertension,kidney disease,foot problem/diabetic foot,vascular diseases.

 

CELIAC DISEASE:

 

It is a common lifelong genetically based autoimmune disorder that causes inflammation of the proximal small intestine. It is characterized by the bodys inability to digest gluten found in wheat ,rye and barley.When gluten(gliadin ) is ingested the body triggers an autoimmune response leading to inflammation in the small intestine which leads to malabsorption of virtually all the nutrients . The only treatment is a gluten free diet. In our clinic we plan a customized nutritious gluten free diet. We also do a regular counseling and monitoring sessions to assure you of a normal healthy lifestyle.

 

HYPERTENSION:

 

Hypertension is elevated blood pressure. According to WHO recommendations, the blood pressure of 140/90 mm of mercury or above in an adult is to be considered as hypertension .This state of raised blood pressure can remain dormant for years without one feeling any major symptoms. About 90% of the population has primary hypertension. Hypertension if left untreated can damage the heart,brain and kidney. Causes of hypertension can be obesity,diabetes,cardiovascular diseases,disturbed lipid profile,hyperthyroidism,disesses of ovaries and renal diseases. Apart that alcohol consumption,high salt intake,faulty diet habits and lifestyle increases the risk of hypertension. Modification in lifestyle is required to control hypertension.at our clinic we advice you as to how you can successfully modify your diet and physical activity pattern to combat hypertension.

 

PCOS/PCOD:

 

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a hormonal imbalance that affects women in their reproductive years(15-44 years). It is characterized by cysts in the ovaries ,high level of male hormones ,irregular or skipped periods. The common symptoms are : irregular periods , heavy bleeding , hair growth on face/belly/chest(condition is called hirsutism) ,acne on face/back/chest ,obesity/weight gain ,hairfall on scalp or baldness , dark skin patches on neck / breast ,headaches . Women with PCOS often experience depression and anxiety . Treatment of pcos is mainly diet based. It requires lifestyle changes and modifications , dietary management to reduce weight and adopting a healthy eating pattern . Foods with low glycemic index and high fibres are preffered.

 

DIET FOR CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES:

 

Cardiovascular disease include conditions related to heart and accompanying blood vessels. Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the most common form of CVD and is caused by atherosclerosis in large and medium sized artries. Plaques develop blocking the arteries. Manifestations are weakness and pain in the chest. In severe failure there is dilation of the heart , circulation to kidney is impaired leading to oedema resulting in congestive heart failure. CHD can be predicted on the basis of serum lipid levels/ profiles . Disturbed cholesterol and lipid levels are a risk factor contributing to CHD.

DIET IN GASTRIC DISORDERS:

 

The GI tract functions as barrier to substances from the environment and as an entry point for nutrients. Digestive problems are among the most common problems in healthcare . Dietary habits and specific foods can treat many such GI disorders.Common GI disorders are:

 

Indigestion(Dyspepsia): Symptoms are discomfort,abdominal pain,bloating,nausea,regurgitation.

Peptic ulcers : symptoms are epigastric pains,heartburns,discomfort,low plasma protein levels,weight loss anaemia.

Lactose Intolerance: An inability to digest the milk sugar lactose is termed as lactose intolerance.In such cases a lactose free diet is given.

Celiac disease: An inability to digest the protein gliadin ( gluten found in wheat ,rye,barley). A gluten free diet is the only cure for celiac disease.

Gastritis: It is the most common problem among the population. Inflammation of mucosal surface of the stomach is called gastritis.Symptoms are anorexia,nausea,epigastric pain.

Gastroenteritis: It is an inflammation of the stomach and intestinal lining.Eating seafoods,mushrooms,drinking excess alcohol,food allergies ,food borne illness ,intestinal viruses can cause gastroenteritis.

DIET FOR RAISED URIC ACID AND GOUT:

 

High levels of uric acid in body results in hyperuricemia which may lead to gout (condition when excess uric acid turn into crystals). These uric acid crystals get deposited as lumps under skin and aroud the jints which is a very painful condition. It often gets collected in kidney as stones .The treatment is based on drug and diet therapy. We plan low purine diets so that high uric acid levels in body can be corrected .
